The pelvic scan

The pelvic scan, sometimes called a gynaecological scan involves a detailed scanning to investigate the condition of the uterus, the ovaries and the pelvic area. Our ultrasound clinic sonographer will look at the size and shape of the uterus.

Why take a pelvic scan?

A pelvic scan is performed to determine the overall condition the female reproductive system, while also seeking to detect possible possible ovarian lesions, polycystic ovaries, fibroids and uterine lesions.

How to prepare for a pelvic scan?

Please drink 1 pint of water 1 hour before your scan, and fizzy drinks or milk are not recommended. Please do not empty your bladder before the ultrasound scan.

We use gently warmed Ultrasound Gel to help you relax, and make you feel comfortable during your scan.

For this type of scan please ensure to book your appointment at a time when you are not menstruating.

What can I expect from the pelvic scan

The consultation may require an internal, trans-vaginal scan, with your consent.
